Final table in $50 freeroll
Decided to play the $50 freeroll on laddies whilst watching the ETP. Anyway managed to get to the final table 3rd in chips. First prize is about $20 so no big deal. Anyway no cards for a while and then I get AA...happy days. However, this is laddies and the donkey who was under the gun called my raise with K9 and man that was all she wrote and I'm out in 9th/1458 for $1.51. Bankroll is now up to $13.15

After that I really couldnt be bothered to play any more today and finished the session $0.42 down which is not too bad given the cards and the muppets on the table. Bankroll is now $11.64 which is a bit disappointing.
To be honest I'm starting to get a bit bored of this challenge and may call it a day and go back to playing stts and mtts instead. I think you get a much better standard of play than you do in cash but I'll wait and see.
I think I'll go and watch the final table of the EPT London instead and listen to the footy...much more fun methinks!

AA and donkey calls! grrrrrrr!
Played for about 80 mins tonight and had AA three times, AK, AQ etc and a few crappy pocket pairs. I only won 1 hand (lol) and I finished $1.89 down and as you can see below was not happy with the out draws i suffered! That means the bankroll is back down to $12.06. Maybe I should have quit when I was up to around $3 for the session after my first AA won lolAfter about 20 mins in was dealt AA on the button.

Hungover session
Played for about 90 mins today (60 hands) trying to recover from last weekends stag do in Magaluf - it was as messy as expected - i'm getting too old to spend almost 4 days on the lash!
Anyway not a partcilualry interesting session as I really wasnt in the mood and managed to make a samll profit of $0.39 when won a few hands towards the end of the session with QQ, JJ, 33 - not as big pots as I would like as the flop brought all manner of draws that my pairs were vunerable to so i bet out and took the pots down either after the flop or turn. I'm ok with this as I didnt have massive hands that could be used to build the pots and better to win a small pot than lose a large one at this stage of the plan to build the bankroll which now stands at $13.95.

In the end I decided to call it a night soon after this pot as it is nice to go away with a nice profit in my last session when I am not gonna be able to play for a week or so. However, I will take some cards and some chips with me tomorrow as I'm sure some of the lads on the stag weekend will be up for a few friendly stts!
Overall i played 34 hands and finished the session $2.42 up. Looking at the stats on Poker Tracker, I played a bit looser than normal as I saw a flop 38% of the time (but based on 34 hands is a small sample so probably not that significant). However, I did have better cards tonight such as AK twice, a few pocket pairs and I did call with suited connectors in late position a couple of times (but missed the flop totally lol) which is what explains this.
The bankroll now stands at $13.56.
If anyone reads this, good luck at the tables and I will be back next week!

One of those days....
Every now and then you play a session and just get nothing, and I mean nothing at all. Every time you get crap and you fold and then finally you get a big hand and think you are gonna be rewarded for you patience but the poker gods have your number and do everything they can to stop you getting paid off lol

I played for 2 hours tonight and looking at my stats on Poker Tracker after this session, I had the one full house above, trips once, two pairs four times, a flush once and that was it - this even includes hands where I folded preflop! If I hit top pair on the flop, the boardwas 3 clubs or QJT or other flops that top pair looks very shakey against! I was dealt a pocket pair twice in 94 hands and these were 22 & 33! Seems like I was destined not to have a good session which is what happens sometimes!
It could have been worse I guess and I only ended the session $0. 85 down so not too bad really and lets hope I get a few more cards next time!
I will probably play a few hands tomorrow but that will then be it to later next week as I go to Majorca for 4 days on a stag weekend on Thursday! Bring it on!

Rugby, WSOP Europe, curry, lager...
I didnt play at all yesterday as I went to Canterbury for the day. Now I'm not religious at all (probably an atheist actually) but you couldnt fail to be impressed by Canterbury cathedral and the 900 years of history. Would hearltiy recommend a visit if you live down this way.
In the evening I watched England get royally spanked by the Springboks which was as depressing as it was inevitable lol. I dont think that we'll be in a pub like 4 years ago come the final! I also watched the WSOP europe tourney on the net so didnt play myself. Pretty good stuff but no commentary which was a shame. I know some people prefer it this way but its always interesting to hear the likes of Raymer, Hachem or Hellmuth when they are in the booth like during the EPT events discussing the hands. Played a few hands today before the Wales - Australia game and finished $0.93 in profit so bankroll up to $12.04 now. Had JJ twice and won with it once. Then flopped trips in the sb with 63 and got paid off against flopped 2 pairs and that was it really.
Going out for a few drinks and a curry tonight at a South African indian place. They do a fantastic house special curry (cant remember the name of it) which is basically a hollowed out loaf of bread filled with curry! No rice, naan or starters required! Yum yum! Trying to make the most of the last few days of my holiday!
Lets hope the Punters Pal's tips come good for the first time this season with trebles and accumulator on West Ham, West Brom, Hartlepool and Shrewsbury.

First hand of the day...
Had a good day today after the nightmare of losing my passport etc. I went to get a new passport today and expected to have a nervous week waiting for it to arrive to enable me to go on my mates stag do next Thursday. However, they did my passport for me on the day despite them telling me before that they couldnt do this as I had lost my passport so that was a big relief!
So decided to play for an hour and below is the first hand for about 10 days......

Played a laddies $1 stt where the top 5 all get the same payout - $2. Generally its a case of sitting tight and hoping a big hand will pay you off...which is what happened when I got KK. I then pretty much sat back, folded the rubbish until others knocked themselves out and the bubble burst. Bank roll now up to $11.11.

GRRRRR I'm soooo stupid
Just got back from a great holiday with my girlfriendf in Skiathos, Greece - fantastic weather, great food, pleasant friendly people so nice and relaxed until......I left one of my f*****g bags in the black cab we got back from the station which had in it my ipod, digital camera and passport! Of course the cabbie hasnt (yet) handed it in if he found it and I guess that given the times we live if the next customer in the cab found it they would just take it anyway and think it was their lucky day - I do hope I am proved wrong and that it does turn up but I'm not holding my breath!
Anyway the travel insurance (if the b*****ds pay up) should cover the ipod etc but the main thing I'm pissed off about is the passport as I'm going on mate's stag weekend to Majorca next Thursday and I dont have a passport! So despite being on holiday it will be up early tomorrow, get the same train I do everyday to London and an apporintment at the passport office to report the lost one and get a new one. Hopefully I'll be able to persuade them to let me pick it up in person from the office next week (as I work nearby) rather than rely on a courier delivering it by next Thursday lunchtime so that I can go on the stag!

The idiot with A9 was 5% to win preflop. I guess I was just unlucky to have come up against AA when had QQ so dont feel as bad as if I it had just been against the moron with A9. Bet the guy with AA is even more pissed off than me - I bet he thought it was his birthday and christmas come at once as he sees 2 all ins before him and he's sitting there with AA lol
Anyway enough of the moans about bad beats....
One of the interesting (or frustrating) things about using poker tracker to analyse your game is that you have a pretty good record of what the outcome of a hand would be if you hadn't folded. I had a classic the other day when I folded J8 and the flop came JJJ. I'm sure we have all had days when our big hands dont hold up yet the crap we throw away either hits a straight or full hosue. Its tempting when this happens to loosen up and play rags but its not a winning strategy in the long run so I try to be very disciplined - if you have poker tracker go and look at the percentage of hands you have won with 74 if you have just folded it and hit a full house on the flop - will help your sanity and prove to you that in the long run folding 74 to a preflop raise is the correct play (although it didnt seem to be at the time)!
For example looking at my stats for the 913 cash game hands since I started this blog shows that if I had gone to the river I would have hit a straight 40 times. But in actual fact I have only gone to a showdown twice when I had a straight! WOW! That looks like a leak to me! Maybe I should play those connectors a bit more frequently as I'm obviously missing out here!
Another intereting stat is the figures for hands won at showdown. My current figure is 59% which is ok and shows that on those rare occasions (lol) I go to a showdown I'm ahead!
Disappointing to end the day $2 down but still up overall! I doubt I'll play anymore today as I'm going on holiday tomorrow so got plenty to do.

Well, I played 134 hands in 2 sessions and finished $1.31 up. No big hands but won with KJ, 99, 44 and AK. My usual tight game but seems to be slowly paying off!

Don't you hate KK.....
Was up early this morning as needed to go and buy some stuff for my holiday next week. Also was on the net just before 9.00am as tickets for one of my fave bands The Mission (goth rockers) went on sale. They are doing a pretty cool series of gigs next February/March where for 4 nights they play in full a different album plus b-sides from singles and live favourites from that time! Fantastic idea I think. The albums are - Gods Own Medicine, The First Chapter, Children, Carved in Sand. Now as a big Mission fan it was hard to decide which to go and see (I guess I should have gone to see them all) but decided on Carved in Sand after changing my mind from Gods Own Medicine. One of the reasons was that the Carved in Sand gig is on a Saturday (and it does have some absolutely storming tracks on it) so I'll have the Sunday to recover from a drunken night in the mosh pit....cooooooooooool
Also had my usual Saturday flutter on the footy, following tips from the Punters Pal (i.e ruddock from the laddies forum). 4 x trebles and an accumlator on Newcastle, Sheff Utd, Swansea and Peterborough. Returns around £30 for a £2.50 stake so nothing big but adds a bit of fun to the footy. This the 4th week of the season and following the Punters Pal has drawn a blank so far, so we are due a win!
Well, here we go again backto the grind. Bit of an up and down session which ended on a down, unfortunately. Got up to over $3 at one point. Had a few cards today, AA 3 times, including twice in two hands and all 3 held up for smallish pots -I think to have a winning session you just need to have a big hand against another big hand and hope it holds up. Also had wins with JJ and 88 but it was bloody KK which was no good today......

That was not pleasant but could have been a lot worse if he was stacked. So overall I played 94 hands and decided to cut my losses and finished down $1.43 for the session. Still in profit overall though.
Update: Have been watching the Barcelona EPT on the web which is excellent so decided to play a tourney for fun where it wouldnt matter if I didnt concentrate so played the laddies 5.00pm $250 freeroll. Managed to get into the top 130 where the money starts out of 1992 when I picked up JJ

Talk about hitting the flop. Second time today I've lost a pot when my opponent hit a full house on the flop.
