MTT donkeys rewarded

I decided to play the 12.30 $1 freezeout on Ladbrokes today and it turned out to be eventful but for the wrong reasons and i ended up out in 60th out of 148 in less than an hour.

I missed the first hand as I was getting a drink which was KJ and was not happy to see the flop of AQT which was probably an omen for the rest of the game lol

I doubled up with this hand when I made a good call on the river with 2 pair when there was a possible straight on the board.

I then blew the 2k after running 88 into QQ and then was almost to the felt when 88 again was no match for AT with a rivered T.

I had 388 chps left and pushed with JT and quadrupled up 1.5k with TT

I then thought things might be going my way and a comeback was on the cards when I had QQ....this is ladbrokes though so it was obvious that a donkey big stack would call my 1.3k all in with J8 clubs and hit runner runner for a flush. But even worse was the other guy who called with 76 when he had a nice healthy stack of 6k and then went all in after the flop with middle pair and went out. Man that was donkey play lol!....sigh.

End of game 896610729

It really does make you wonder how people like that get big stacks....oh yes, I forgot its down to dumb luck and not even considering what the other players have. Ok lets have a look at this play in a bit more detail. I'm not sure which of the 2 plays was the worse:

The guy with 76 flat called pre flop in utg+1 with 6 players still to act - I mean that's piss poor play for a start. Did he think about what is he gonna do if raised, call with 76 out of position? Well we know he did which says it all really. A the end of the day he could have folded preflop and been still in the tourney with above average chips.

The big stack with J8 on the button called preflop for 200 as well - ok he might want to have seen a cheap flop as he had position and had about 14k chips so fair enough. But in my mind its just leaking chips if me or the small blind raise and he folds.

The small blind calls which is fair enough.

I'm the table short stack so I could go with anything and I push for 6x bb with QQ. Nothing wrong with that!

Now back to the fool with 76 - he can't seriously think he is ahead, can he when he makes the call for a quarter of his chips? What did he think I had that could he be beating? 54? lol And he was prepared to risk a quarter of his stack when he was likely to be a 3-1 dog at best. And let's not forget that the big chip leader is still to act who would surely be beating him too?

Ok so the big stack has seen my all in and a call and he has J8 and makes the call for 10% of his chips....hmmmm I 'm not sure its the best call in the world but he proably saw a face card and they were suited and his fold button was probably broken....

The small blind shows some sense and folds!

Ok the flop comes J75 with 2 diamonds.

Mr 76 hits second pair and as we all know the correct move is shove and pray...not! Ok I know its always better to be the aggressor rathet than the caller but I would not be putting my tourney life on the line with second pair when their is still the big stack left to act. How about a bet of a third of the pot to see where you are and maybe take it to just heads up with me? Lets face it his kicker is pretty poor to so he could be pretty dead to the big stack if he has another 7 or J. I'm afraid this is a typical move oneline and one that if you made in a live situation, you would have been laughed out of the card club with...and rightly so!

Now its big stacks turn to act and he has flopped top pair but is facing a bet of almost 5k or nearly 50% of his remaining stack. Of course he insta-calls and obviously gave no thought to what Mr 76 had. He would be dead to AJ, QJ, KJ, but this doesnt seem to cross peoples minds when they shove in blindly and hope for the best.

As too often happens the awful play was rewarded with runner runner and he not only took chips of Mr 76 (who lets face it deserved to lose them all) but also the 5k side pot off me (who didnt) lol.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I played another laddies high stack today but never really got going and came 5th.

I could tell it was going to be one of those days when I folded T8 under the gun and the flop came J97 lol. In level 3 I got QQ under the gun and my raise of 300 got folded round which was a shame. I raised3 00 with AK and my continuation bet on a A86 (2 clubs) took the pot. Whilst some may think that I could have won more if I had checked, I've seen too many flush chasers hit to give free cards when all I have is top pair! In level 5 I got AJd on the button and raised 800. The big chip leader called and we checked the KQ5 flop, and K turn. I called his 400 bet on the river 5 and he turned over the Q for a better 2 pair.

I was now the short stack and so pushed all in with K3 and 99 and won the blinds both times. The blinds were 200/400 and with just 2.2k left my A9 on the button looked good enough to push with. Unfortunately the small blind had AQ and the big blind 88 and the AQ flopped a diamond flush and i was gone.

Whilst these games with 3k chips appear not to be as 'crap shooty' as the usual stts with 1.5k chips, I think the fact that they are 10 hand blinds as opposed to 10 minute blinds makes a big difference in the later stages - 10 hand levels with only 4 or 5 players means the blinds can go up very quickly - much quicker than 10 minute blinds. I just hope laddies bring back the super deepstack stts which allow good poker quickly!

I dont know if I am gonna be bale to play many games over Christmas as we are either visiting friends/family or have friends over most days so I may not update for a week or so. In the meantime

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR (at the tables!)

STT win

It seems like Ladbrokes are re-vamping their STTs as they will be having a leaderboard and various other new things which is good news as their rewards for STT players are frankly rubbish! What this means though is that at the moment they dont have their full range of STTs available at the moment and one of the games that is missing is the super deepstack games which I mainly play. However, they have told me that these will be brought back which is good.

So i had to play a different game and to be fair laddies did have another high stack game which was 3k chips and 10 hand blinds.

I got off to a very slow start and didn't pick up a hand until level 3 when a preflop raise and a continuation bet with AK was enough to win the pot of 700. The first big pot was in level 4 when I flat called with 88 hoping to hit a set and the flop was a pretty good A82 with 2 diamonds. I re-raised on both the flop and turn and the caller called my 600 river bet on the 7 which gave me a full house, a 3.7k pot and second place.

Hands were few and far between and at level 7 the blinds were 400/800. I checked with K4 in the big blind and bet out 1.6k on the KQ7 flop which was enough for 3.2k. I won another 2.2k with KQ as I knocked out the short stack

At level 8 the blinds stop at 500/1000 so it is pretty much all in preflop and I did this 3 times in about 8 hands with 44, 22 and TT and won the hand each time. With the blinds this big compared to the stack sizes it is a crap shoot and if you go a couple of rounds without a hand then you are pretty much screwed. Hands in the big blind like 53 when you are allowed to see a flop of A42 for free and flop a straight are just the kind of luck you need! This enabled me to get to HU as a 3-1 chip dog.

I then won a big pot with AQ when I hit top pair and my bets were called all the way. But as I said before it only takes a few rounds and you can be right back down again which happened to us both as we both had hands which we played strongly after hitting the flop. I managed to get all in with 33 vs QJ and I was back up to 16k.

The key hand was this:

Saturday 15 December 2007

Played another stt today and managed a 3rd.

The game was memorable for a total donkey going all in and betting 5k in the first level with rubbish, getting called but outdrawing 4 players in the first level to get up to 25k! Such a lucky fish! After 10 mins there were only 5 players left!

I sat back as there was no point getting involved with the idiot until you had a hand. In level 2 my moment arrived as I picked up JJ. I raised 180 and no surprise to see the muppet re-raise 4.5k. I called and he flipped over K4 loooool so just K to avoid and the board came 8AA66 and i doubled up to 8k.

Myself and the other 2 players were more than happy to let him have our 15 and 30 chips in the blinds to his 5k pre-flop raises. It didnt take long for the idiot to drop from 25k all the way back down to 12k with a series of ridiculous plays with absolutely nothing. Did he not realise that we were all just waiting for a hand to play back at him with? And given the blinds structure there was no rush!

It was just a matter of time before the fool bubbled and we all had a laugh as it was to a bad beat when his AK was outdrawn by AT with the T coming on the river hahahaha. There was no sympathy for him whatsoever as he didnt deserve anything but mocking laughter!

I was the short stack now with 6k vs 33k vs 9k. I wasn't getting any cards but at last we could play poker without an idiot involved and it was quite a good game for a level or 2. My demise in 3rd place was unlucky as I flopped a set but he flopped the straight and made an even better straight on the turn. I still had outs a paired board would give me a full boat but alas it wasn't to be!

Back to winning ways!

I managed to play my first game for about a week tonight and glad that I managed to get back to winning ways again with a 1st after not cashing my last 3 stts.

I had no hands early on until Level 2 when I flopped the nut straight with AJ after limping gunder the gun. I managed to avoid the flush draw and' picked up 1.5k as someone couldnt put down their 2nd pair.

Nothing to report in level 2 and 3 and I picked up a couple of pots with AQ and 94 in the big blind. My first big hand was in level 4 when I had AK in the cut off. I rasied to 400 and got 2 callers in the blinds. The flop was A95 and as they checked I bet out 450. I got 1 caller. The turn was T and I bet 1.3k. I was re-raised to 3.8k and I thought about it for a bit as he could have had 99 or 55 for a flopped set as there was no obvious straight or flush ...I called and was pleased to see he had AJ, he didnt hit his J and I doubled up to 10.3k and sent him to the rail.

Things then quietened down and I won a few smallish pots with 66 and AJ. I then pick up KK and I re-raise to 900, and the chip leader re-raises me all in. I insta call and he flips over QQ. The board is 632 with 3 hearts but thankfully I have the K hearts to his Q hearts so am only dead to the Q. The turn and river are bricks for him and I win 20k and am now chip leader! I then pick up QQ and manage to get back a few chips I lost with AK a few hands before.

We were now on the bubble. I had 21k and the others had roughly 10k, 12k, 6k so sitting pretty and then this cool hand, well for me anyway. I wasnt involved as I folded my 93 preflop lol

You are guaranteed a Prize !

I guess the AK got lucky to flop his top pair and knock out the other 2 and so I went from chip leader with 4 left to a slight chip dog (28k - 21k) and guaranteed 2nd place in one hand lol!

I'm determined to win this game and I try to be aggressive and we both lose a few k and then get it back. I then pick up JJ....

Looking at this hand I guess I was lucky to hit the set on the turn but then again he shouldn't have given me a free card. If he bets hard on the flop am i gonna lay down JJ? Possibly but after the turn he is gonna get smashed as there is no way he is gonna lay down top pair and I'm going nowhere with my set! When he goes all in I cant get my chips in fast enough! I think it was a bad play by him because if I have nothing or second pair or worse, I'm laying down to such a big bet and if I call he is probably losing as he doesn't have a great kicker in his hand with Q8 and I did raise preflop so I could have AQ, KQ, QJ and he is in real bad shape!

I'm now totally dominant with 43k and he then starts going all in a lot preflop and gets to about 10k. I'm just waiting for a hand to call him with. I pick up QJ and call 600. The J96 flop gives me top pair and I decide to put him to the test...he calls with A5 and the turn and river are 8, 3 and I win.

Nice to get back to winning ways the first time playing in a week!

The bankroll is now at $109.59

ARRRRGGHHH muppet alert

Well as I said below I would play an STT and would not call preflop, either raise or fold (I allowed myself to check on my own big blind). I guess it helps if you do have some cards worth raising with (in position) and a table who have an idea of how to play the game rather than a table of muppets who will call anything with any 2 cards!

I never got any cards and was probably more card dead than yesterday which is an achievement. In the first 5 levels I got JJ, AK, 99, AJ - the rest were K2, 94, 83 A5 etc just pure rubbish not even worth limping in the small blind with never mind raising! I stuck to my guns though and tried to raise in position but its tough as you know that the other players are only thinking about their own two cards and don't really care what you have or or trying to represent! I never got above 6k for ages. To give an example these are the hole cards I got when blinds were 200/400 K8, K2,44, J5, JT, 84, K7, Q5, Q2, 32, K9, 73, T9, J4, J2, 63, 97, J2, 52, 76, 76, 96, 94, 63 - not a single raiseable hand and not even a single A! I know its not always about the cards that you play the players too, but at this level its so difficult to bluff a calling station if they have top or middle pair because as I said before they don't even give a seconds thought to what cards their opponents may have.

Anyway this carried on until I checked in the big blind with 62

If his limp under the gun with 54 was not bad enough, how the fuck can he then call my preflop raise with 54! What did he think he was beating, 32? Complete and utter moron and of course he is rewarded with an open ended straight draw and the twat can't call my all in quick enough with his draw with his tourney life on the line....i really wonder about these people! And he will continue to play like a twat when his donkey play is rewarded!

Anyway, looking at my stats, my aggression factor is way up on what it normally is as a result of not calling preflop. I raised 10% preflop which is not a huge amount higher than my usual which is almost 7%. I guess it may have been higher if I got any cards at all that I could raise with! My saw flop % was lower as I wasn't calling preflop.

Overall, it was interesting and something I will try again. Frustrating though when normally you may have limped and hit the flop big time which happened a couple of times! If it wasn't for the bad beat I would have cashed and then with a decent stack might have been able to put pressure on the other 2 players. I think that if you can get a few good hands early on and maybe double up it makes it a hell of a lot easier especially playing against people who ha vent got a clue. But then it would wouldn't it! lol

Well after 3 losing STTs the bank roll is $101.79

Hopefully I will get a chance to play another STT tonight as I doubt I'll get much time over the weekend.

I intend to try something slightly different and do something that Chris Ferguson once advised...'only ever raise or fold preflop, never call.' I think that this is pretty good advice as limp calling preflop doesn't give you much idea of where you are in a hand relative to any other hands. And if a hand is good enough to call with then it should be good enough to raise with otherwise its a marginal hand and not worth playing!

I think that a raise where you would normally call is quite easy to stick to early in a game when blinds are small and a raise will not take up much of your stack. It gets harder later on as the blinds get bigger and a raise will be a bigger chunk of your stack. However, I guess this is where it will help me to be more aggressive with a wider range of hands than I would normally be. Then again I'm sure we have all loved it when we have limped preflop with rubbish to mix it up a bit and flopped a boat or straight and won huge pot against someone slow playing a big pair!

I'm sure we all know that aggression is what usually counts in no limit hold 'em - well controlled aggression, not maniac play so we will see! I will post my Poker Tracker stats after the game.....lol I'l probably be out in the first level!

Bubble boy this time

I played another stt tonight but it was oneof those games when you are just totally card dead and A rag in the small blind starts looking playable! The best hand I had pre-flop was JJ. And then hand after hand of rubbish. I never had a hand to defend my blinds with and whenever I folded the crap like 92 the flop would give me trips or a straight on the turn and the retards calling each others bets to the river with bottom pair would win a pot. I'm sure we've all been there before - and when I raise with AQ in position I miss and then have to fold to a big bet on the rags board. ...sigh It was pretty piss poor poker all round with some awful calls out of position with nothing the norm!

Despite all this I still managed to get down to the last 4 and pushed with AT suited with about 8 big blinds left. I didnt think the call from the guy in early position with 22 was a great play on his part for 3/4 of his stack! However, it was a winning play as the board were bricks for me.

The game can be so frustrating some times!

Bank roll is now $103.99

Saturday 1 December 2007

Well, the run had to come to an end and it was frankly no surprise that it was to a retard when I was holding AA. It was level 2 of a laddies super deep stack stt. I hadn't played a hand so far and picked up AA in early position. I raised to 180 and got a caller on the button. The flop came 863 (2 diamonds) and I bet out 405. The button re-raised all in and I called. They turned over the mighty 54 hearts for an open ended straight draw. The turn was 4 and the river was predictably 2 to give the moron their straight. I have seen some poor play in my time but calling a 180 raise with 54 even on the button is pretty piss poor. If you're gonna play 54 at least raise and try and push me off the pot as you have got to know you are either way behind or at best have no idea where you are with 54 if you just call! And then getting a lucky flop and going all in with just a straight draw....sigh! Anyway give me that position again and I will take it every single time as a 4-1 favourite pre-flop and a 2-1 favourite after the flop! I watched a bit of the game after that and saw bad play after bad play as chips were thrown away chasing gut-shots strights and flush draws.

Anyhow that's it for today as I'm off to a friends birthday which should be a really good night!

The bankroll is now at $106.19
