YES IT CAN versus JJ and AQ for the biggest pot of the challenge so far, a monster $6.05

Overall after 75 hands I finished $4.83 in profit for the session which is the best so far!I managed to hit a few hands at last and more importantly they held up in the bigger pots. So total bankroll now of $9.40 and hopefully will build on this over the weekend.

Thursday 30 August 2007

Didn't play yesterday as my internet connection was down...grrrrrr....hate it when that happens and especially now that Virgin who have taken over from Telewest charge you 25p/min to call their tech support when it was free before - total rip off!

Anyhow, played for a couple of hours today and man if I thought I wasn't getting any cards before, then I obviously hadn't seen anything yet lol! The best hands I had out of 73 hands were AJ, AT, KQ, 44 and that was it, the rest were rags and for a change when I folded I never hit the flop or hit a full house by the river. Just sat around and watched everyone else pick up AA, KK, QQ, AK etc

So in the end I lost $0.36 (lol) but as its my last day at work tomorrow before 2 weeks holiday not even losing my whole profit so far could have wiped the smile from my face! A week with the g/f in Skiathos, Greece on the beach and I can hardly wait!

Went on to the ladbrokes forum and saw that 2 of the regulars richlizard and lodger were at the final table of the $10 high stack so watched that for a bit. Lodger was a card rack and picked up AA, KK, QQ, AQ to go from short stack to chip leader in about half a dozen hands. Well done lodger for bringing it home and richlizard for 4th when his AA was beaten by a flopped straight!

I was registered to play a LEOCOP player point satellite at 10.30 with the top 10 getting a seat in another sat tomorrow so if I qualify I'll post tomorrow. Update: out early with KQ against AA lol

Player points get returned to zero tomorrow on laddies which is a bit crap compared to other sites who let them roll over but I doubt this will change anytime soon.

Tuesday 28 August 2007

Played a for about 90 mins (58 hands in total) tonight whilst listening to the footy on 5live. Didn't pick up many cards , not a single pair but won a few hands with K7, QT, KQ in the blinds when I hit the flop and made 2 pair or hit an open ended straight on the river. Biggest win of the night was with AK which hit top pair against KJ on AQJ flop for a 'whopping' $1.71 lol. Saw the flop 10 times in total and only twice when not in the blinds which is pretty tight to say the least. I think as I said before the only way to win is to play premium hands as you can't bluff anyone at these levels and people will call gutshots and any kind of draw. I won 3 out of the 4 hands which went to showdown which is a pretty good hit rate.

So another day and another small profit to add to the bank roll. I guess I'm pretty pleased to be making profits when I'm not getting any cards but we shall see how things progress. I've added a new graph below.

First couple of days

Ok well, I've made a start and played 5 sessions with profit/ loss as follows:

Session 1 + $0.83
Session 2 + $1.21
Session 3 - $1.23
Session 4 + $0.94

This gives a total profit of $1.75. Not great but I barely got a decent hand. I think I had KK a couple of times and was sucked out on once by a straight on the river. A few pocket pairs but not much else! However, when I folded crap the flop hit me full in the face! Very frustrating! Normally in STTs I would probably play a few more hands knowing that I can push people off hands but at these low stakes that is much more difficult and I dont want to bluff and risk a big chunk of the bankroll with nothing. It must be said that patience has to be the name of the game with 5 or 6 people every hand seeing the flop, and hope that when you get a big hand, someone else hits too and you get paid off.

Still, I'm on the way and lets hope I can pick up a few hands and get that graph going the right way again!

I've added a graph at the bottom so it makes it easier to see progress and when I get used to this blogger software I'll hopefully be able to move it to make it easier to see along side the latest posts.

First post

After reading about Chris 'jesus' ferguson turning a bank roll of $0 into $10k, and getting bored with playing small stakes stts i thought 'hmmmm i'll give that a go' and keep a blog about it. I know it probably wont be as interesting as his but hey if people dont wanna read it then fine! Maybe I'll throw in a few bits about my day to day life to as well as just the poker stuff, who knows.

What I plan to do is start on the lowest level cash table at Ladbrokes with $2 from cashing in freerolls the other day so it is starting from scratch. This will be at the $0.01/0.02 NLHE tables where the max buy in is $2. Once I have reached $40 I will move up to the $0.02/0.04 tables and when I reach $100 move to the $0.05/0.10 tables. I will always buy in for the max as I believe that you need to have a stack that can get you paid off well when you hit a decent hand. I may also play a few STTs and MTTs but for no more than 5% of my bank roll whilst with cash it will be for no more than 10% of my bankroll.

I usually play low level STTs ($2) and MTTs (up to $5) - not huge stakes but I play more for fun rather than to earn money as I dont get to play as much as I would like given that I have a job, girl friend, social life etc!

I have earned over $1200 playing on line in the last couple of years and my total bank roll across all the sites I'm a member of at the moment is $580. Not a great deal I know, but as I said I dont really play for the money, just for fun.

I do like to keep accurate records of my earnings though (www.pokerdominator.com) and also use poker tracker (www.pokertracker.com). I'd highly recommend taking a look at these tools as you'd be surprised how helpful they are in identifying leaks in your game. I used to play a lot of turbo stts but then after starting to use these tools, realised that I was losing money playing them and that a slower structure suits my more patient game - try it for yourself.

I hope that this challenge will keep me interested in playing for the next few months as I've been getting a bit bored of the online game recently! Hmmmmmm...we shall see!

I'll try and post details of each session profit/loss so if anyone is interested they can see how I'm getting on!

Cheers,

richmagpies
