Poker stars surprise!

A few months ago I played in a Pokerstars World Blogger Championship freeroll and came 36th and won an ipod. Those who finished in something like 80th to 60th position got a Poker Stars hold-all and packs of cards. It seems that Poker Stars are pretty generous as I got a parcel today containing the hold-all and cards too! The 2 packs of cards are decent Fournier ones and the hold-all is ok too! Thanks Poker Stars!

I've just not had a chance to play a game for ages due to work mainly. Also Ladbrokes still haven't brought back their super deepstack stts and I may email them for a 3rd time asking when they are gonna be brought back like I have been told twice before. Although it wouldn't surprise me if what they had told me before was a load of rubbish as their customer service imho is piss-poor unless you are a high-roller. And given that their poker cruise is on at the moment they probably have even less people answering emails than usual!

More stts today

I played 4 more $4.95 4 pay stts on poker trillion today and it was just bad beats and outdraws all round lol.

In the first game I had no cards really. In level 2 I got AA but all folded to my preflop raise of 250. We were on the bubble in level 4 and I re-raised all in for 1k with AQ and was called by QT. Thankfully there was no T and I doubled up to 2k. The same level I had A3 hearts in the small blind and pushed ai to get the big blind to fold. He called with 86 and although the flop brought 2 hearts I couldn't make my flush and was down to 700. Fortunately the bubble burst and so I was guaranteed my entry fee back and in level 6 I pushed with AQ and picked up the blinds. The last hand was when I pushed on the button with AJ for 1.2k. The blinds were 200/400 so an auto push. Unfortunately the blinds had AJ and KK and there was no A and I was gone in 4th place.

I think the standard in these games is pretty poor. I played a 2nd one and after winning 2.7k when I hit trip Aces and called an all in, I picked up AK. A donkey who had been raising all in preflop a lot does it again for 2k and I call. He turns over A3 for gods sake and of course the fucking donkey hits his 3 on the flop. Total moron play rewarded again and I'm out in 7th instead of being the chip leader. ARRRGGGHH! I guess I could have laid it down but with blinds at 150/300 and not getting any cards it was too good an opportunity to pass up. In these games with short blinds, you have to take a chance now and then and I played it perfectly and would make the same call every single time. Against morons all you can do is get your money in ahead I think, no point trying to out play them or be tricky as they just don't get it! Just saw the end of the game and the moron won of course! Oh in case anyone comes across him, the moron's name is kEVYN

Ok so thats $4.95 down for the day at the moment.

Played a 3rd stt and was card dead which doesn't help with the quick blinds. I had JJ first level and I raised 180. I got 1 caller and the flop was AK6 which is pretty awful for JJ and i folded to a pot size bet. I then never got a hand until I had about 600 chips left and we were on the bubble. i pushed with KJ on the button which was reasonable but the chip leader in the big blind called with Q6 and he hit 2 pair on the flop lol and I'm the bubble boy.

So that's $9.90 down for the day which is the winnings from yesterdays 2nd place finish.

However, I haven't had any cards today and would have cashed if it want for the bad beat in the second game. The standard is pretty awful as I said earlier and I can see no reason why i can't win consistently at this level as I am getting my chips in when ahead and have been unlucky a couple of times.

So i decide to play another stt and get KK first hand and hope to double up. I raise to 320 and get 2 callers. The flop is 742 with 2 hearts. I go all in and get a caller with AT hearts. Here we go and unsurprisingly the turn gives him an A and the river T to give him 2 pair! ffs it really pissed me off lol! So i was down $14.85 for the day after 4 stts. But I was ahead when I got my chips in every time and outdraws and donkeys getting lucky are something we all have to live with!

Anyway I was slightly tilting after the KK was busted so I decided to play some cash and probably blow the last of the free money I got yesterday. However, I pick up AA, 99, JJ and manage to win back $6 which was pretty good. It was then dinner time and it was probably a good time to quit anyway lol.

I came back after dinner and played some more 0.05/0.10 cash and after about 2 hours was up $4.06 after I doubled up with AA. Hardly seems worth it lol! Well at least the cash winnings recouped some of the stt losses!

Bankroll is now $134.17

First game of 2008

I've been either ill with the flu or so busy at work that I haven't had time to play a game this year until today! I played on a new site today - Poker Trillion - which is part of the Boss network. I had an email from them offering me 10 euro ($15) free money without having to deposit if I signed up so I signed up being partial to free cash!

I decided to play an stt as its what I do best but was tempted to play cash given that it was free money....but resisted and fired up a 3.30 euro ($4.95 using a conversion rate of 1 eur0 = $1.50) pay 4 stt which is the lowest level they do although it is above my usual level. The blinds were 8 mins and you got 1.5k starting stack so not great but then again there is a lot worse out there!

The software is ok but the buttons are very small and you have to be careful as the 'fold' button is just below the 'call any' button if you want to click it before its your turn! I haven't found an 'auto muck' option yet which is annoying as when you win a hand you get the option to show or fold and I lost count of the times I sat there and watched the seconds tick away as the winner just let his clock run down instead of mucking. With 8 minute blinds if this happens every time then it can eat up a hell of a lot of time in each level!

On to the game, in level 2 I checked with 95 spades in the big blind and checked the flop which gave me a flush draw. The turn brought my flush and I bet out 200 and got a caller. I then bet a further 390 on the river and got paid off 1.6k. The next decent hand was QQ on the button and I raised 5 times the big blind to 250 and got a caller. The flop was K68 with 2 spades and I called a bet of 50 fearing the K. The turn was a 9 spades giving a flush, straight and over pair possibilities. Not what I wanted and my QQ was looking even more vulnerable when the original caller pushed instantly all in for 720. It was only level 2 so I laid the QQ down. Maybe I could have raised on the flop to see if he had a K?.

I was then card dead until level 5 when I hit a straight on the river with QT in the big blind. The perils of checking all the way to the river as my 400 river bet was paid off! I level 5 again I hit a flush on the river with T9 spades from the big blind and was pleased to call 1.3k putting myself all in on the 37T6A board and win 4.2k.

The bubble passed fairly quickly and I then knocked out the 4th place guy when I called his all in for an extra 255 with my T7 in the big blind. He had AJ but the flop was 44677 and my full house knocked him out in 3rd. the third place guy was knocked out by the chip leader and we were now heads up. I was a 6-1 chip dog with about 2.5k to 12.5k so wasn't expecting to win. However, i did come back pretty well and managed to get to 7k. I had AA twice but each time I limped preflop, he folded which was annoying! The last hand played itself as I hit 2 pair on the flop but unfortunately it gave my opponent trips and that was that as all the chips went in on the flop! Still pleased with 2nd place and $13.05

Bank roll is now at $123.79 (or $138.79 if we count the free $15!)

New Year poker resolutions

Happy New Year! Ok now that's out of the way and I have almost recovered from the flu that has had me laid up for the past 5 days...god I felt like crap and have now passed it my girlfriend who I can hear coughing and spluttering upstairs as I type this!

What are my poker resolutions for the new year?

1. I am gonna continue with the challenge
2. Want to have the bank roll to be playing $10 stts within 6 months. This doesn't look very ambitious but it all depends on how much time I get to play and the way things are at the moment its not a lot!
3. Quit playing stupid freerolls where the prizes are a few cents after 4 hours play and play a proper game instead!

My stats for the challenge to 31 December 2007 which I started in August last year were

Total bank roll $115.69

Tournaments
Played 38
Cashed in 71%
Profit $105.20
ROI 125.39%

Cash
20 sessions
buy-in $40
profit $8.49
ROI 21.23%

I think its clear where I am best so I think I will stick to stts but maybe try a few more mtts as well. If I can get to $150 this month I can then start playing $5 stts and should hopefully move up to $300 pretty quickly. If I lose 10 buy ins at the new level i will move back down to the old level..but I'm not planning on letting that happen!

Overall in 2007 including before I started the challenge in August my stats were

Total profit of $553.63
ROI 67%
cashing in 61% of tourneys I entered....whoopee doo I hear you cry! I know its not big bucks but I am pleased that I am a winning player given that I don't have as much time as I would like to play .

Anyhow I will hopefully be able to play a few games this weekend and start 2008 off as I mean to go on.

Oh I nearly forgot, here's a nice hand that I had in probably the last ever freeroll I will play.....
